Tutorial Task 6: Searching on the Internet.

The subject for todays tutorial task is "searching on the internet." Our Lecturer Adam Muir gave this task to allow us learn how to research information on the internet without using Google. I beleive it was a tremendous idea inasmuch as researching professionally is concerned. I have done my research based on the list of questions the lecturer wanted us to answer. Below are the ansers I found on the websites indicated below the answers.

Question 1. What is the weight of the world's biggest machine? How much did it cost to build?
Answer: The world's biggest machine is known as the Krupp digging machine. It weighs 45,500 tons. Its costs was $100 million.

Question 2. Find a live webcam in Antarctica. Can you find a place to live stay in antarctica?
Answer: The live I found is the current air temperature of 0.8 Degree celcius and it changes very rapidly. And because it is too big, you can view the image in the websites below. Yes. However the weather conditions compared to the rest of the world vary significantly. This is because Antarctica is the most coldest continent. People such as tourists who go there mostly live in hotels and boats.

Question 3. When and what was the first example of global digital communication?
Answers: The Telegraph was the first example of the global digital communication found in the 1960s.

Question 4. What is the cheapest form of travel from Gold Coast to Melbourne?
Answer: Tiger Airways is the cheapest form of travel from gold coast to melbourne. However, it is only from the 2nd of feburuary to the 26th March and the it costs $38.95.

Question 5. Who is Douglas Engelbart? What is he known for?
Answers: Douglas Engelbart is an internet pioneer known for the following:

a). Invented the computer mouse in the 1960s that came to be used mostly in the 1980s.
b). He formulated a discipline aimed at helping to augment human intellect. He was able to do this by establishing a research centre in the 1960s. His seminal work "Augmenting Human Intellect: A Conceptual Framework" was the main article he wrote of which its ideas helped him in execute his job well.
c). He developed an elaborate hypermedia-group-ware system called the "Online System"
d). He is also known for the famous concept of the "Mother of all Demos" (first video conference he made with his workers)

AnswerStephen Conroy is the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy,Deputy Leader of the Government in the Senate and the Minister Assisting the Prime Minister on Digital Productivity."  The most reliable way to contact him is through his parliamentary contact 02 6277 7480

Answer: Love Shack by B-52

Questiuon 8. How would you define the term ontology? In your own words, what does it really mean?
AnswerAccording to Stanford univerity, ontology is a "formal explicit description of concepts in a domain of discourse (classes (sometimes called concepts)), properties of each concept describing various features and attributes of the concept (slots (sometimes called roles or properties)), and restrictions on slots (facets (sometimes called role restrictions)"
 In my own words, ontology is the study of ideas that reflects the characteristics of those ideas or concepts.

Answer: Immersive Media Cameras (IMCs)

Question 10. Name three computer operating systems (Not for phones) that are Not Apple OS or MS-windows operating Systems. A) Who created it and when? How can you get a copy of the operating system to use on your computer?
AnswerThe three operating systems are AIX/AIXL, Sun Solaris 7 and SCO.
AIX/AIXL was created by IBM in the 1990 in the month of  Feb.
Sun Solaris 7 was created by Sun in the year 1998.
Finally SCO was created by SCO in the year 1983. You can find and download them from the website.
