firstly, I'm writing about the revolution in warfare.
In one of the readings titled FCJ-004 The Military-Entertainment Complex: A New facet of Information Warfare." This is an extremely exciting topic I found reading. warfare has changed and is continuing to change significantly due to changing the complex nature of threats in the 21st century. This change in military warfare is also known as Informationisation in modern warfare. The use of technology to manufacture advanced military weapons, air capacity, long range missiles and defensive mechanisms from aerial attacks.
With warfare being treated as entertainment, countries are now beginning to invest in technological warfare approaches. Countries like China is now heavily engaging and bringing its military and defense capacity to realizing the importance of modernizing its army, airforce, navy and marine. This is all because of how the Americans handled the Iraq war of 2003. Iraq was hit by technological weapons on key military installations that weakened their military strength before too long.
This article really made me to realise the importance of internet not only on our daily life but of its strategic importance to the defense industry and security.
The last question our lecturer asked was our views on governments plan to censor the internet and perhaps its effect on democracy.
My view on internet censorship is straight forward. the government's plan to censor the internet would be a violation of democratic principles. If the principles of democracy is the freedom to move, freedom to assembly, freedom to worship and freedom to speak, there is no reason the government should act contrary to this principles. First of all, the internet is the mostly used media of communication. In essence, the internet is the voice of those who are voiceless. Any Australian can speak what they want to speak about their government and this is what democracy is all about.
I acknowledge the fact that the government is concerned is concerned about the misuse of the internet by some individuals but I still don't think censoring the internet is viable solution. Censoring would be infringing on the rights of the Australian people. If the government intends to protect children from accessing wrong websites on the internet, they should should maybe allow internet companies put tighter restrictions for children wanting to access particular websites that are pornographic in nature.
one dangerous aspect of censoring the internet is that politicians will surely exploit this to their advantage. They will deliberately choose not to disclose important information to their constituencies or electorates. This can be in terms of policy etc.
